Our Process

American Lives Theatre is devoted to producing the work of new playwrights in order to reflect only the most current voices and also to contribute to the livelihood of living writers. For this reason, we seek to produce almost entirely Indiana premieres and ideally at least one world premiere production each season. As you can imagine, our readers are far outnumbered by our submissions. ALT will accept any script submissions at any time. But please allow up to six months for your work to be reviewed. We realize that can feel like a very long time, but we want to be sure your work will be thoughtfully considered. Once you submit your piece, it will be read by either Literary Director Andrew Kramer or Artistic Director Chris Saunders. If we are considering your piece for a reading or production, it will be then be reviewed in a more elaborate process with other directors.
