American living has changed drastically since ALT last performed for Indy audiences. And theatre has all but disappeared. But we are returning for the last weekend in August to bring to you three original short plays by Indy writers about American life in 2020. * We promise there is a lot of humor.
ALT has partnered with the writing talents of Jamaal McCray and Brandi Underwood to bring you three evenings of three short plays, all socially distanced, outside, and masks required.
Safe viewing for work that is anything but.
Ticket prices have three tiers: 1. A suggested $20 donation, 2. A $25 ticket for those who wish to give a little more, 3. A $10 ticket for those whose income has been affected by the events of 2020.
Please join us to celebrate being alive, having each other, and the art form we love.
'SPF 2020' is an evening of these three plays:
The God Barber of 49th Street by Jamaal McCray
A simple haircut reveals an apocalyptic sense of doom. Set in a barbershop in Indy, this two-hander exposes a city that is simmering on high. A crisis of addiction, poverty and police brutality tip into madness and anarchy in a play that is both horrifying and hilarious.
Paradise by Brandi Underwood
David wanted a fresh start; Diana was forced into one. Two strangers at crossroads in their lives. They meet at a resort in paradise. Then a third character enters the scene: COVID-19.
Small Boat by Jamaal McCray
What happens when you’re stuck in a tiny place with just your beloved? Quarantined audiences will relate to this comedic take on a couple who has all the time in the world to repeat a cycle of resentment, blame and … devotion?
All performances are weather-permitting. Should a performance be postponed for any reason, you will be emailed a minimum of two hours prior to curtain. Your ticket will automatically roll over to the following day for a 5 pm added performance. If you cannot make this performance, email ALT Artistic Director Chris Saunders at chris@americanlivestheatre. Unfortunately, there is no make-up performance for Sunday, Aug 30. If that is cancelled, you will be notified and receive a refund.
